Silifke (Seleucia) and Tarsus

These two places of settlement have been monumental for Christianity thanks to St. Paul and St. Thecla. These two centers have been bestowed the rank of “archdiocese” following the Antioch Patriarchate, and the episcopacies which were scattered around a large geographical area were governed by these two centers.

During a period when christological discussions resulted in serious seperatist acts and to violence, one of the councils encouraged and supported by the emperor took place in Seleucia in 359 A.D.
