Ayaş (Elaiussa Sebaste)
The city of Elaiussa Sebaste, one of the thirty three episcopacies under Seleucia ad Calycadnum (Silifke), has been a major area of settlement during Early Christianity period.

During the excavations in the city, remains of Hellenistic and Roman periods, as well as monumental churches, have been discovered.
Inside the Roman city agora, a grand Byzantian church with three naves and apses facing each other was built. In the excavations inside this church, there are some geometrically patterned floor coverings, some of which are very well kept to present. There is also a baptistery in the shape of a cross and some tombs excavated inside the church.
Elaiussa Sebaste, which was an extremely majestic city in the Roman period, never ceases to impress visitors with its grand shrine tombs, theater and temple, as well as the historic church.
